Ok, so had MOT today and failed miserably.

    1) Both my front side lights are blue.
    2) Nearside break like not working.
    3) Offside headlamp aim beam image 'obviously' incorrect.
    4) Drivers seat insecure.
    5) Offside inner CV boot deteriorated to the extent that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt.
    6) Nearside and Offside suspension arms have excessive play in ball joints.
    7) Parking break efficiency below requirements. (11%, already had shoes and wheel cylinders on the back about a month ago). He also said its not working on one side..

Been quoted £285. This figure reasonable? Obviously I want a safe car to drive and will pay te price for this.

    Massssssiiiiivvve rip off dude.

How mechanically minded are you pal?
  4. #4
    Rip off

Might need new cables or else cable tensioned up for the handbrake
First 4 items are a case of screwing in bulbs and headlight alignment

CV boot could be replaced but second hand shaft would be just as handy, £20 would buy one and easily put in, and then sort the front suspension

In parts your talking very little to be honest, handy done DIY

    1) Both my front side lights are blue. -- Change theses yourself £2

    2) Nearside break like not working. -- Get flexi pipe if poss £20ish

    3) Offside headlamp aim beam image 'obviously' incorrect. -- new headlight unit. used. £20

    4) Drivers seat insecure. --re bolt it tighter

    5) Offside inner CV boot deteriorated to the extent that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt.-- new CV boot £15

    6) Nearside and Offside suspension arms have excessive play in ball joints. --£15 per side. Best getting garage doing this. they have the ball join separator.

    7) Parking break efficiency below requirements. (11%, already had shoes and wheel cylinders on the back about a month ago). He also said its not working on one side.. --The pipe should fix that. obv you will also have to bleed the brakes.

Been quoted £285. This figure reasonable? Obviously I want a safe car to drive and will pay te price for this.

Not long had the car tbh. Just put it in to see what needed doing before MOT runs out 24th may. Although after this MOT I'm not driving it at all. Didn't realise it was so bad.

As for DIY, I can do the arms myself also g as I can find them cheap enough.. Inner CV boot? I have no idea how to remove driveshafts so think I'll leave that for the garage.
