top strut bearings broken?

  1. #1
    Hello,

Today i fitted (tried to fit) my new springs. (eibach sportlines)

When i wanted to assemble the strut again i found out that the bearing pops open everytime i assemble it..

so should i buy some new ones? or wil it happen with them too?

I dont know what to do right now

    Any help would be appreciated

They do look quite old, quite a common thing on saxo's, when its all together does it rotate smoothly? Did you have a look at the condition of the bearing when it was apart? New ones are fairly cheap and would make sense to fit them at this point before they start knocking imo

but it rotates smoothly when they werent mounted yet

Bearings are about £20 a piece

if the rubbers with the threads on are ok, just the circular bearing is only like £10 each or less. Best to change them, theyll only start knocking. You don't want to risk losing your steering, as thats what they are there for

I bought some new bearings today and i found out that the new bearings are a bit different.. the new ones are completely from metal.. and the old ones are metal and rubber/plastic

so i mounted my strut today with new bearings and i think its allright.. i havent heard any weird knocking noises yet so only time will tell if its allright

I think that the original factory ones are made from rubber.. the thing you see sticking out on the first picture is actually a part of the bearing!

the new ones are indeed completely made from metal.. i purchased them at the citroen dealer for 26 Euro each so i think citroen decided that metal is better
