I have a saxo furio 1.4 2001. My problem is when I put my foot down the car starts to hesitate and slows down whilst juddering. A bit like running out of fuel. It won't go over 3k revs. I have been told it is either the coil pack or the cat. So I have changed both of these and spark plugs but still have the problem. Sometimes it's ok and back to normal, and then it does this again. Anyone got any ideas

#2Try a new fuel filter mate.
-
#3Glad you said that as I have literally just bought one
-
#4did the new fual filter sort out the problum because i think i may have the same problum
-
#5i get this sometimes with my 106
-
#6i got told it could be fual filter or fual pump under the rear seats
-
#7I'm not too sure yet. I've had to order a new strap as they snap so just waiting at moment for it to turn up, but once I do it I'll let you know
-
#8If the fuel filter doesn't work then it could be the pump. I usually let my car run low, ive been told it is bad as it picks up all the rubbish in the tank and blocks the filter
-
#9ok mate gud luck its a nightmare when u have a problum and you think you know wat it is spend money on it and its not that wats the problum
-
#10Tell me about it lol I've just had the head gasket fixed and now this? Cars do your nut in lol
-
#11any news on this as my car seems the same, please let me no.
thanks lee -
#12Not yet, weather has been awful. Meant to be better at weekend so hopefully I will do it then. Il keep you posted
-
#14Its ok ive ordered the strap now lol
-
#15Well buying strap was a waste of time as I couldn't get it on so a good old cable tie came in handy lol will test the car soon as
-
#16Well fuel filter hasn't fixed it. Any other ideas
-
#17try fuel pump under the rear seat might be best scrap yard because im not sure how much a new one cost let me no on your progress
-
#19you people are all focused on the fuel while it could be the air filter. Could be caused by moisture, could be caused by excessive heat soaking, could be the filter itself being completely shagged. Service your car fully instead of guessing around. Almost there though if you already done the plugs and coil pack + fuel filter.

#20It judders and slows down when I put my foot down and up to 3k. I did mention that. Yeah it has been since the head gasket but if the timing is out it will smash the valves and then the car won't run. The car does it and then it's fine so can't be that. I've just ordered a new air filter so that is hopefully the problem. If the fuel pump was knackered the car would be like it all the time.
-
#21So far so good, air filter seems to have sorted the problem but depends how long this lasts lol
-
#22Well that's that out of the window. It is intermittent. Car still does it
-
#23Just found my coolant is disappearing and there is no pipe leaks, the head was on the skim marks so couldnt be reskimmed. Is this the problem, is it new head time
-
#24Ok I've tried new fuel filter and air filter. Hasn't solved it. I had to replace the head as it was letting coolant in and couldn't be skimmed. This hasn't solved it. Apart from the fuel pump has anyone got any other ideas
-
#25Lambda or map sensor, could even be TDC sensor.
-
#26Ok I'm not getting no engine management light either
-
#27put it in the right gear
-
#28Haha
-
#29Looks like it was the map sensor, but how long will it last lol everytime i seem to fix it, it seems to be fine and then a few days later it starts again. We shall see
-
#30Update, the car feels like it has a flat spot and if I take my foot slightly off the pedal, the power comes back a bit
-
#31did you change map sensor? sounds electrical or the timing is out timing can be slighley out and still run and to be honest an air filter aint gona cause you there problems was the head checked when it was off even thow its been skimmed to its max still should have been checked with a straight edge and have you had a diag done sometimes your ecu will pick up a fault when it occours but not throw the light on
-
#32Yeah changed the map sensor, I had timing and head both checked and I still have the problem. The codes I got were p0420 which is obv to do with there being no cat but I also got p0105 and p0110 but not too sure whether these are the problem because I had no codes before I changed the head. It's a nightmare lol
-
#33Had exhaust welded as there was a big hole in it still no difference. Got someone looking at it Thursday and Friday. If they can't find the fault then it looks like il have to start saving and then goodbye
-
#34Just had car completely tested and everything on it is working fine. The mechanic said the only thing he thinks it can be is fuel starvation. Does anyone know where I go from here
-
#35had the same issue on mine its like its misfiring and its not. i garentee its your MAP sensor! i got a new one from euro car parts for 29 quid it was a bosch one and fitted it and car now runs like a beauty again!!!
-
#36or loose connection onto ur MAP sensor, when you say you changed it did you change it for a second hand one or a new one???
-
#37test to see if the map sensor is getting voltage! should be getting a 5v+, 0v and a raw signal when the car is running and under load, the volts should be fluctuating
-
#38Map sensor was brand new and it tested all working
-
#39Sounds similar to what was wrong with mine. Ended up being a load of shit in the throttle body causing it to not fully close (sucking in air)
As soon as i cleaned that out it worked perfectly again, worth a go
-
#40Ok cheers will give it a go. How did u get inside it to clean it
-
#41I took the air box off then just cleaned the butterfly bit out.
-
#42change the fuel pump pal....
-
#43I can't see any where that you've mentioned the idle control valve....u tried cleaning/ replacing that? Cause my car has all the same symptoms and I need to replace the icv but I just clean it until I get a new one
-
#44Ok cheers and will try and get car pressure tested before I spend money on pump. There is nothing wrong with icv, I had that checked
-
#45My car now Judders when I have extra weight in my car and feels like it is stalling when turning corners and accelerating. Does this sound like a lazy fuel pump
-
#46I had a similar problem except mine was running bad after restarting it after going to the shop or summat. Self diagnosed it, turned out to be the coolant temperature sensor. Brought a new one off eBay, fitted it and my car is fine all for the cost of £12 and 5 mins with a spanner. The ecu was putting the choke o. When not needed due to it thinking the engine was cold. You need the green coolant temp sensor and not the blue one...at least I did for my '97 1 litre.
