fuel smell in car

   my missus has got a problem with her vtr. when its in traffic/slow moving and the window is open there is a strong smell of petrol. it only smells when the window is open though, not closed. any ideas what it could be? i thought it might be a puel pipe cracked or perished. its a 1996 vtr.

   I`ve got the same thing & checked all the pipes no splits or cracks.Its left me thinking its an injector/s blocked.I say this because every so often I get a cold starting problem whereby unless you keep your foot on the gas it cuts out stinking of fuel as it does so.As a temporary measure i`ve added injector cleaner into the tank which will keep it running sweet for a few weeks,it really needs the injectors removing & ultrasonically cleaning.

   Might be worth looking at terraclean. Cheaper than getting the injectors cleaned and better for the engine/sensors/exhaust
