No power steering,battery light on

1. Hardrive L-plater Joined: May 2010 Posts: 49 Saxo 2002 VTR 8V

   Hi guys
   
   Fault
   
   When starting car the battery light is on, no power steering or heater till battery light goes off then power steering and heater works ok.
   
   Multi meter tests as follows
   Earth ok
   Before starting engine the battery voltage is 12.43v
   Start engine voltage of battery is 12.08v
   No diffrence in voltage when reving the shit out of the car
   Battery light is on at this point
   Then for no reason the voltage of the battery goes to 14.20v
   And power steering is working as well as heater and voltage increases with revs
   
   I'm totally stumped by this. Can someone give some light on this as I don't want to buy a battery and altenator if it's not needed
   
   Please please help

   Voltage regulator in the alternator has packed up,thats why your voltage is up & down.Check all of the connections before condemming the alternator though.

   I've checked the earth and resistance and everything seems fine. There is no logic to it lol. It's like in the lap of the gods. All of a sudden I have power steering and life is wonderfull..
   I've checked for alternators and apparently there are 4 different types for my car? I've got a vtr 51 plate and I've looked at the altenator and I've managed to get these numbers off it. 63321741 A115I CL7. 9635557580 14v
   God knows which numbers are for the part no.

   3 things to check on your current alternator,the ampage the pulley type & the connector IE plug or ring type.

   Just an update. Ordered a new altenator and getting it tomorrow. Hope to god it sorts it lol. Also been a buzzy bee today. Installed new exhaust and given the old vtr a good service as well as done the tappets. Just need to sort the dam brakes out and the old girl is mint once again

   Fitted new altenator and whoop whoop. Problem gone. As soon as the engine is turning over I'm getting 14v and power steering is working
