Need help: Fan-like noise from the engine

  1. #1
    Hi all!

I have got Citroen Saxo 1.1 petrol, 2001, When I start the engine this laud fan-like noise can be heard. No warning lights. The noise is all the time as far as engine is working. When car is accelarating the noise doesn't change but is less noticeable due to the noise coming from the engine. It is difficulte to be localised where the noise is coming from. It looks like coming from front part of the engine, but is not the radiator fan rather it comes from where the lamda sensor and front cat is, but can be from the engine itself especialy the side where cambelt is.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you in advance.

Could be the cambelt rubbing on the cover if its come loose, could be an exhaust blow could be anything really. Just have a poke around with the engine running and see where it's coming from.

Disclaimer: if you're daft enough to injure yourself whilst poking around, i accept no responsibility

PAS pump? By the rad, down low on the right hand side of the engine bay?

Just wondered the same when I got my VTR home and figured it to be that as its electric.

My PAS makes a weird noise, dunno about describing it as fan like.

yeah sounds like mine does. getting cam belt done tomorrow so will let you know if the noise goes. my PAS also makes a constant whirring sorta noise and it works fine and is full of fluid so i dont see it being a big problem
