vtr rear beem collapsed!

  1. #1
hello guys, i took my mk2 vtr for a MOT a couple of weeks ago, failed on emmisions (as had straight thru exhaust no cat) so i welded a cat in last night, took it for MOT/retest today flew thru emmisions, but as it was over 10 days it had to be full test again, so he did it and told me to come have a look at what he found and i looked and on my drivers side the rear beam bush/bearing has collapsed allowing the wheel to lay inwards and to have ALOT of play, basically can you buy a repair kit for these? if so where from? and as im a mechanic but never done one of these.. if i strip it all out and and replace bearing/bush if i can get one will i be able to get it to sit how it is at the mo as its lowered and sits rather nice also where is the best place to buy poly bushes from as would like to poly bush my vtr while im at it

    cheers guys matt

Would be easier to buy a lowered beam and change it complete

The general consensus is that by the time the bearing has collapsed like that, the stub pin is going to be badly worn too, so just changing the bearing won't really fix the prroblem. The parts aren't very expensive, its just changing the stub pin that can be tricky without heavy duty presses and heating gear.

Just check the pins before you start mate. Any imperfections in the stub pins and throw the beam the new bearings won't last 2 mins.

The huge stub pins the trailing arms rotate on. If there is any rust pitting groves or anything like that they are fucked You can fit new bearings and seals but don't expect them to last any length of time.
