Whining noise

   I drive a 1.1 Forte, accelerating in 1st gear gives off a whining noise, not only is it irritating, it's rather worrying! Does anyone have any advice as to what it could be?

   how loud? roughly where from? could be transmission whine, they often do it in first and second, nothing to worry about

   It's definitely coming from the engine itself. It's only just recently started to make the sound, which is why I'm a little concerned.. I've just read on here that it could be my gearbox?
