vtr-vts conversion help :/

  1. #1
Hey I've just bought a w reg vts engine (phase 2) I've got engine + loom ecu ans all other bits to just straight swap, the vts is a single plug ecu and mine is a 3 plug ecu (2002 vtr) do I need to change interior loom or can I just plug the vts engine loom onto mine on the round plug under the bonnet ? Any more advice I need ? Cheers x

Get ecu loom and sensors off a 3 plug vts
  3. #3
Can I not use the single plug ?
  4. #4
Some of the loom connector's are different on 3plug / single plug.

I fitted a 16v that was originally converted to run on single plug - and changed it to run on 3-plug loom / ECU.

Just a few sensor's ie TPS and water temp sensor's needed swapping to 3 plug ones, so the loom connected to them.

I used the sensor's off my 8v - However the coilpack connector's are different. So I Changed the coilpack too.

Still slightly confused by this so can I use the vts single plugh ecu and loom on my vrt that is a 3 plug ecu if I change sensors ?

Get rid of the single plug stuff for 3 plug - and run it on that, you will know the engine loom and interior loom match then.

dont do it, converting a mk2 vtr with a mk1 vts was a Biiiiig mistake, better off just sticking to same year or same mk and you should only have to have the ecu unlocked

Can I use my mk2 vtr ecu with a vts engine if I get a 3 plug loom ? I heard ecu's are the same on vtr's and vts's ??

Also the engine is out of a 2000 x reg vts (first phase 2)

    W reg either !

this is what ive been told in the past, 2000 reg is crossover loom year if your single point loom fits into the connector behind the passanger headlight, it will fit if not u may have to get it spliced, by the sound of it yours is a 2002 with the smaller connector, your vts connector may be bigger. try it if it doesnt fit you cant use it but yes its easier to use 3 plug loom and ecu. Your vts will need a fuel pump return plumbing in and you can use your 3 plug ecu but it is better to get vts ecu.

I suppose all I can do is try lol, w reg is the change over it has the same interior loom as mine just with a single point ecu.

    Why?

I have a single plug engine/loom/ecu in my 3 plug car there is no problem at all. The loom just needs splicing.

    This... Same as my loom

    Spliced now is perfect

Is this a stupid question? If I splice the loom to fit it on my plug how will I know what wire goes where ? Anyone got a diagram or anything that could help ? Amd are the vts gearboxs the same as a vtr box ?
  16. #16
How much wiring experience do you have?
  17. #17
Put it this way if I know what wire goes where I can do it.

Wireing loom plugs straight in so will it all work no prob ?

take a picture of the 2 plugs on the pin side and throw it on here ill tell you.
