Coilover Blown? What Make?

  1. #1
Well just got my new saxo on the road today and encountered a problem already I bought it with coilovers on and i believe they are GAZ, but i will upload a pic and if somebody would kindly tell me what make they are well i noticed a knocking from the left side at first, then when accelerating abit around a left turn the wheel felt like it was scrubbing sideways and made the car judder
so my gf's dad is a mechanic and he told me the shock is blown -.-

There is the coilover, anyone had this problem before? will i just be able to replace the shock absorber inside? or do i need a hole new strut?

thanks guys any help is appreciated as i dont want to go buying something if its not guna fix it

If it is a Gaz unit you can send it back to them and theyl rebuild it. Much cheaper option than buying a new one.

Is there anyway of finding out what make it is? as i cant see anything atm and im just assuming its gaz from a previous thread of a former owner

How the hell can you tell that from that photo alone....

Unless the threads and adjusters are the same on all coilovers?
    The springs look identical too.

Few pictures of mine in there... Theyre exactly the same as far as i can see

Does look like a Gaz unit from that photo to me.. Although it isn't a great photo.

LOL, a coilover looks like a coilover... normally the only way to tell with ease if you cant see the stickers/numbers is the colour.

That looks like black springs (may not be original) and black adjusters.. they could well be ebay specials.

    Yes, they come out

Ok thank you, i guess any shock absorber would fit it? as i was going to buy a GAZ one.
  13. #13
Gaz springs are blue and the adjusters are black rings with gold threads.
Best to strip down the strut tbh.
  14. #14
You need to fit a matching damper otherwise the car will be unbalanced with one damper rebounded faster or slower than the other side....

If its a Gaz set up, and adjustable shocks buy the same unit..
Either way just make sure you're running the same set-up both sides.

ive never seen blue gaz springs
always black spring, gold thread, black adjuster

ebay specials usually have red springs with a wider top/bottom coil, blue adjusters and silver thread.

Minigibbo - are them gaz golds on your 205?

God knows how anyone can tell what coilovers they are just from that pic alone lol

Thread of a previous owner saying they're GAZ, the springs and adjusters look like GAZ ones to me, mainly the thick black springs and thick black adjusters..
    :-)
As said.. Check for some part numbers to be definite!

I could be wrong lol think the springs are black actually lol
  26. #26
No the Gaz golds are on the other whip.
  27. #27
why are you not getting it rebuilt? should be about £50 based on what ive heard
  28. #28
because i use my car basically everyday so i cant have it sent off or i wont be able to drive anywhere. alot easier to just buy and fit it myself
  29. #29
theres a dude on this thread selling one for £30
