Important! : help with revving problem on vtr

  1. #1
my vtr was running perfect until suddenly it lost power (you'll have to bare with me, it's hard to explain )
car will tick over fine, but when revving between 3,500 and 5,500 revs I get a deep like air intake sound, it sounds like it sucks air in through the air filter, the engine goes to cut out and it coughs, then returns back to tick over speed when taken foot off accelerator.

The car is in the garage, but they have no idea whats wrong with it either.

Anybody else had the same problem or know what it could be?

Thanks for any help in advance

i'd start by swapping the coilpack mate because my vtr had the exact same problem and it turned out just to be a faulty coilpack

well the car is at home now, i had a specialist electrician have a look and said it was the fuel pump, i have replaced the fuel pump and the problem is still the same, the things that have been checked are:
    coil pack
    air filter
    fuel pump (now changed)
    crank sensor
    plugs
    fuses
pipes in engine bay for air intake
    diagnostic test and passed

does anyone have any ideas, i have now spent out £140 and have got nowhere !!!!!

    cheers all

My next step would be the injectors mate, get a set of refurbished ones, or send yours off to injectortune if you dont need your car for a while.

ok i have just rang the garage and these were also checked and were fine

anything else that can cause these problems?

the report from the electrician from the garage is as follows:
checked codes- various about o2 sensor but live data show lean mixture. checked fuel pressure - very low then irratically jumps under load not enough constant fuel pressure. check pump positives and negatives - ok.
recommend to see if fuel filter fitted, if not fuel pump maybe faulty as on one occasion instead of 60psi all it had was 10 psi......

well as i said i have replaced the fuel pump so can anyone shed any light on this, i don't really know what things to check for now.

    cheers

The injectors could well be functioning OK, but they get clogged up over time and this won't read on an ecu reader. Have a look on YouTube, there is a guide on cleaning them... It's worth a shot. If anything, cleaning them will improve the car no doubt anyways even if it doesn't solve the issue.

ok it ended up being the external fuel filter, spot on now and was a quick fix after the garage ripped me off and didn't know what the problem was lol

Glad you sorted it mate. It's nice when it's just the little things, annoying when you check EVERYTHING else first though!
