    Hi guys,

Trying to find out if what i was told the other day is true or not.

My car ran out of its M.O.T around 2 months ago,

and i was told that if i have it booked in for an mot at a garage somewhere

then i am safe to drive it that day to the test and if i get stopped by the

police then because it is booked in they will let me go.

    Is this true or not??

If the car is booked for the MOT and you are going there you will be fine.

That's true, only if you're going to the place for the MOT.

You can't just keep booking it in and then driving around freely lol.

and your car must be insured.

Also you must go straight to the MOT garage, even if you pop to the shop on your way you can get done.

yep. you can take it to any MOT station as long as your drive there. have the test then if it fails drive straight back

you could drive from lands end to john o groates for an mot if you wish but expect to be stopped on the way and asked loads of questions. also if they see fit that the car will not pass an mot they can actually get the car recovered and impounded or taken straight to the nearest vosa mot station and checked there and then. you are fine as said before to drive it straight from yoor house to the mot station and if you get stopped you have to have proof of mot booking not just well its take it there and wait mot. it actually has to be booked in and be proved via paperwork

if it fails it doesnt mean you can drive back home, if you do drive away from the testing station you will be driving without a valid mot.

You are allowed to drive it to "a place of repair" after failing an MOT. I assume this would cover your home if your doing the work yourself.

If you had an arsey traffic man that wants to do you for no MOT whilst driving straight home from a failed test, then your more likely to get a fine for the things it actually failed on anyway.

I also wondered if the car fails an mot are you ok to drive it back home to do the repairs yourself?

    thanks

Yeah you'd be really unlucky to get stopped tbh.
