Bolts for VTR alloys

  1. #1
I'm new to this forum and have only just got a Saxo, a little Mk2 1.1. The first thing I've done is get some VTR alloys but I didn't really think that the bolts would be much different from the standard ones but after looking on here a little I realised that I'd need new ones.

My question is what bolts will I need to attach these new wheels to my car?
And also, where is best to buy these bolts?

    Thanks in advance

You`re correct about the bolts in that you need vtr alloy wheel bolts, the problem you now face is that theres 2 kinds for the vtr wheels.Try ebay or the main dealers.

Okay cool, so eBay is the best place to go?
Also when taking the wheels off my 1.1 how easy is it to put the new wheels on? Is it literally just screwing the new bolt in place or is there more to it?

    Sorry about all the questions

Providing you`ve got the correct wheel bolts then its the same as any other wheel change, just be careful the car is jacked correctly & keep your legs/feet away from under the car(in case it slips off the jack)& jack the car on level ground.

Do the early vtr wheels use flat bolts and don't the later alloys can use either flat or tapered?

The ones off my mk2 had a tapered face and a flat face I think they did it so if you have to fit your spare steel wheel you can use the same bolts, something they overlooked on mk1's is the storey I heard

Are these the bolts I would need?

Looks like it but you`d need 12 of them & 4 locking wheel nuts or your insurance company might not be too happy.

    Oh right, cheers mate.
Out of interest what are the locking wheel nuts for and why would I need them too?

There are 2 types of alloy wheel bolt the completely flat face

these will fit all citroen alloys any age though they were designed for the earlier style wheels
then you have the tapered style as we call it

these are only suitable for the later alloys that have a tapered lip around each hole where the bolt goes thru if your wheels dont have this and you try to fit these wheels they will not bolt up as the lip has no where to recess into

As for why they changed not really sure yes it makes fitting a stand steel on as a spare easy as wheel bolts do the job, they didnt how ever over look this on mk1 as the spare had adaptors fitted to it to enable the bolts to be used

anyway hope that has been of help
please do NOT use the standard bolts as they were not designed to hold the alloys on and you risk the wheels falling off

Thanks mate, I think I understand a little better now. I'm pretty sure I need the flat face bolts as my alloys were taken from an early VTR.

And don't worry I'm not gonna risk trying the standard ones, I'm glad I started this thread otherwise my wheels would have been overtaking my car haha
