    hi guys and girls
just wondered if anyone could shed any light on this problem.when i start up my car from cold it has a slightly noisy start on idle until it warms up then disspears it seems the lifters are making the noise. and disapears completly when warm. The cars been stood for a couple of months when being built and has had a newly ported head with new lifters, valves and springs and a lower milage camshaft. ive been reccommended some thicker oil would solve this but im already running.10w 40. anyhelp would be great! thanks

shouldn't need to go any thicker.

i wouldn't worry about it mate. once the oil is warmed up its entering the lifters quicker than when it's cold so can quite them down quicker.

IIRC 8v doesnt have lifters, they have roller rockers/rockers with adjusters for valve clearences. Check the valve clearences, the noise will go away when warm because as the metal gets hot it expands so that the valve clearence then closes, thats the whole point of having a clearence in the first place. So in reality if it hasnt got hydraulic lifters it will always be a bit tappety from cold, its when it taps when the engine is hot you need to worry
