keep smelling gearbox oil :-\

   i keep getting a strong smell of gearbox oil..
   
   gearbox does not have any obvious leaks and leaving my drive way clean..
   
   clutch is not slipping (leak in bell housing)
   
   any ideas?
   
   N-reg AX 1.0 4speed with 13,000 miles + the 3,000 i have done in my VTR

   Have you overfilled the gearbox oil by any chance?

   no, oil is okay and not been touched.. somebody said it may be the input shaft..

   You`re 100% sure its gearbox & not engine oil?I say this because my crankcase breather has a split in it & I can smell oil vapours inside the car mate.

   i will get my mate to have a proper look, just gearbox oil has its own smell.. its not a constant smell, its just now and then,.. the saxo does not get abused anymore due to endless money pit (lesson learnt)

   Iv smelt gearbox oil a few times in mine, first time a bearing had calapsed and put a small hole in the side of the box, second time the box completely Imploded expelling about a litre and half onto the road :/ and third time the offside driveshaft seal was shagged leaking oil onto the down pipe

   i get the same sort of thing on mine i just thought it was becasue theres alot of old oil on parts of the engine and when its heating up its smelling so i degreased it all down and its still the same
