What rev's are people doing at certain speeds?

   I'm beginning to think that my VTS may actually have a 1.1 gearbox on it, the rev's seem ridiculously high, and I always feel the need to change up a gear when I'm in 5th!
   
   For instance at 60mph in 5th what RPM are you doing? (VTS/16V owners really, I guess it would differ from engine to engine)
   
   Also are there any markings on the gearboxes themselves that will enable me to identify what gearbox is attached to the engine?

   VTS box is very similar ratio's to the 1.1 box!
   
   my 16v with 1.1 gets
   
   60mph @ 3k
   
   70mph @ 3.5 - 3.6k
   
   80mph @ 4 - 4.1k
   
   Which im sure will be the same as yours:

   Yeah they do seem to be screaming, however I drove to land's end the other weekend..

   That was driving around the 60 road's/hills.. then 320 miles / 5 hours straight at 4500rpm on way back home.
   
   Pretty good for a 16v i'd say. (+ no fuel return / no lambda's so overfueling)

   Yeah mines getting about half that, even when I try and drive it as sensibly as possible!

   i have a 1.1 and does about 3.5k revs at 70 but it gets good economy at those speeds, just under 50mpg, dont worry about it

    Well on my mk1 VTS i get around 3500 @ 70mph and 4000 @ 80mph in 5th gear if that helps at all ?

    3.5k - 70
    4k 80
    4.5k - 90
    6k -125
    6.5k -130
    7k - 140
    
    Would have gone more but ran out of private road. Standard vts, wheels / tyres. And the speedo lies like a cheap Chinese watch!
    The true speed at 7k was 124mph
    From 60mph onwards it just strokes your ego lol!

    Did this more accurately today; In my standard 03' VTR it's litreally a smidgen over 3k to do 70MPH. So probably 3.1k = 70 3.5k Was 80

    I think I'd prefer the vtr box in mine. I do motorways a lot.

    In my 98 VTR for comparison:
    
    3k in 5th gets me to about 68mph if my gps is to be believed, about 65 on the clock.
    
    Great fuel econ if i just stick it at 3k and hold it there, doesn't sound stressed either down the motorway.

    Saxo with VTR box in is at 90mph at 4k.
    
    But, the RS hits its' 4k limiter at 150mph in 5th

    Yeah BE box. Not sure on the ratios - this is my 3rd BE box - I've just used whatever is lying around at the time!
    
    I want to lengthen the FD this year, so will be looking for something from the 205 diesel I suspect. I've got a 205 derv box kicking around somewhere, just need to figure out what fits where. Want it geared for 175ish - whether it gets there is another matter

    Anyways, my 1.4sx, which definately has a 1.1 box (old box died) hits 80mph at just over 4k in 5th. I want my old box back as it had lovely ratios for the motorway. Round town the 1.1 box is great (lights sprinting etc) but they suck on the motorway (esp when you have a sniper back box and straight through centre pipe!). The orginal box had the same ratios as my 106 diesel! The only longer geared box is the vtr one. There's a gearbox thread around somewhere that gives all the ratios and the box identifier codes.
