Important! : Bloody brake piston

  1. #1
Well as you can properly tell i'm pretty annoyed. Went to change the disc's and pads on my car (easy job right?) well thats what i thought, until it came to depressing the piston. The bastard just won't go in! I've soaked it WD, opened the fluid cap, g-clamp it, crowbar and still nothing. I must be doing something wrong... any ideas?

Are you pushing in or turning it? i know on the rears they turn clockwise? iirc.

Not sure on the fronts, could try that.

yeah read the rears twist but the fronts don't and theres no groves or anything to indicate they would twist. Been looking around other forums and seems it might have seized and i'll need a new caliper or rebuild kit

does it come out if you press the brake pedal with engine running?

(careful to only move it a little bit). With it out a bit further see if the piston looks to be corroded etc. get some wd40 on the shiny bit and clean it up if it's rough (probably covered by a seal).

dont think the fronts turn though as said... just get some leverage on it

Done it now. Un-done the brake pipe and forced the piston out with compressed air then got a new seal and popped it back in!

I had something similar on a 1.1 106 caliper that was partially seized, pushing it back physically bent a massive Record G- clamp. Undoing the lines and it pushed in it hand, must have had some sort of weird air lock or blockage and then obviously couldnt compress the fluid

Think that was probably the problem. But thought if the seals had gone best replace them, no doubt ill need to change the pads again at some point.
