Abs working or not?

   So iv had my Vts on the road now for about a month and the abs light has been on the whole time flagging up the rear offside sensor, so I finally got round to fitting a new sensor today and the light has now gone off, since I fitted it earlier as I slow down to a stop just before I stop there is a groaning noise and the car slows down slightly quicker,I have never driven a Saxo with abs before so
   
   Is this the abs working?

   Simple test to find out, Slam your brakes on, if you skid then no, if it doesnt skid, then they are working
   
   ....Make sure theres no cars behind you.

   As above really slam the anchors on, you shouldnt skid..

   As above, slam the reverse thrusters on, you shouldnt skid..
