Torsion Bars

  1. #1
    Hi everyone,
Last week i striped all my car down so that i can lower my car.
But could take them out cause i needed a slide hammer.
So this week i have bought one tryed doing it but had no look.
Is there a speicial way you have to do it ???
Cause when i was trying i have havin no look didnt even move a little.

What can i do anyone know ???
  2. #2
you will probley have to heat it up a little

    or grow some muscles
  3. #3
lol think i will try heating it up 2moz.
Wat can i use will it be ok with a lighter and airisol ??

jesus i hope you're not serious?

before you go blowing your car up, make sure you're doing it properly. have a search of the forums mate, there are plenty of threads and links which provide guides on how to lower the rear bars
  5. #5
i know how to its just getting them out.
i have been pulling an hammering all day and i have had no joy
  6. #6
We got mine out by getting a big strong man to precisely twat a bar that was pushed up against the TB, its a nightmare though! Always doable, ou just need a big enough hammer and a big enough arm

    fuck me are you mad
  8. #8
I have been trying all weekend and a load of my mate have been to (a lot stronger than me)tryong to pull them out.
Do you need to have the anti roll bar out in order for the torsion bar to come out ?????
Or it just to make life a little easyer ??
  9. #9
You don't need to remove the ARB IIRC, you are aware they only come out one way (one comes out each side)
  10. #10
u on about the tb ???
Cause i have unbolted them and took the washers out.
And took the bolts out on the rear to.
    and its not budging.
  11. #11
    yes
the tbs are tapered so they go nin and out one way only
  12. #12
how do you take it out then ???
I have followed to websites of how to do it.
Do you take the drivers side out first ???
  13. #13
You need to hit the small end of the bar with the big hammer and it'll leave via the other side of the car, therefor both wheels and arms need to come off
  14. #14
so i need to take both shockers off the back and my wheels.
Then the back of the torsion bar put something onto and hit it with a big hammer.
Do i need to take the washer out of the back ones ??
And will they come straight out or will i have to use the slide hammer to pull them out more ???
  15. #15
Depends how jammed in they are, not used a slide hammer myself, just hit them hard and they come out the otherside
  16. #16
OK i will try that 2nite.
Which side should i try frist ??
And do i need to take the washers out of the back tb ??
  17. #17
Either should be fine, not sure on the washers
  18. #18
you need to remove the dampers from the rear axel then

soak them in wd40 for a few hours, then make sure u get the washers and screws out of each end of the torsion bars, 4 screws and 4 washers in total, 2 per torsion bar.

when i did it i took the anti roll bar out, you dont have to but my mate just pulled it out tryng to be helpful,

Next get your slide hammer with an m8 bolt attatchment i thinks, and screw it into the lower bar i think on the drivers side you will see if its right as they only cum out 1 way but im sure its the lower 1 on the drivers side.

make sure u measured the distance between the hub and the top of the arch and wrote it down

now get a mate to hit the trailing arm with a decent size hammer, while you slide hammer at the bar, it should then cum free, make sure u put summat under the trailing arm though before as it will just twat the floor

you can try this method for the other side but a rachet attactment bar or summat like is best and hit the back of the passenger side bar from the drivers side with this to push it out the passenger side. or use socket and spacer.

hope it works for ya and use a blow torch if you must not an airosol lol
  19. #19
do you have any clue what you are doing?
  20. #20
use the guides as posted in your other thread
  21. #21
thats wat i have bee doing and have had no look
  22. #22
so your sayin to pull the drivers side out first then ?
  23. #23
and once i have pulled the passenger side out.
Do i adjust that side and put it back in or do i leave it out till i have pulled the other side out ???
  24. #24
    can anyone help ???
  25. #25
cut an old torsion bar up an hit the 1 in the car with that that way the threads dont get damaged as the bar fit in splines as is pushes the other bar out easy
  26. #26
well wat if i havent got an old torsion bar ??
Can i not use a trolly jack handle or a tube of metal to push the torsion bar through ??
  27. #27
use a rachet extension theyre stong enough, pull the drivers side bar out first, the lower of the two you can see, lift it +50 or watever drop your going + 5-10 for the weight of the arm, then reinsert the bar

now do the passenger side but you may find it easyier to hit the torsion bar out from the drivers side, so your hiting the back of this bar pushing it out of the drivers side.

are you sure you have taken all the washers and screws out?

are you using a slide hammer? and do you have wd, also get under the car and wirebrush all the rust and shite off from round the place the bar inserts and pile in the wd,

i cant believe you havnt done it yet,

also try the socket/spacer method on the suzukituning site i posted in your other thread
  28. #28
I am going to give it a go 2night so i will let you know how it goes later or 2moz.

Thanks for all the help just hope it works
  29. #29
just smack fuck out of the arm at the same time asd using ur slide hammer and it will cum out, make sure u dont pull the whole arm off though just the torsion bars u want out
  30. #30
got one side out (drivers) peice a piss.
but i can not get the passenger one to bdge at all
    any ideas ??
  31. #31
do i need to keep the torsion bar out to get the other one out ??
  32. #32
well done mate thats 1 out of the way, u dont need 1 out to get the oter 1 out, u definatly took both screws out of the passenger side 1 yeah?

are you using a slide hammer? if not what are you using?

soak it in wd40 for a few hours, mite be better to get sum release oil from halfords for seized parts, then hit all round it with ya hammer to loosen the rust seal, get a big socket and a washer and a good strong m8 bolt not a shite 1, thats your puller now, and wind the bolt slowly into the bar, this will pull the bar out hopefully. just dont give up.

    keep updating the thread mate
  33. #33
ye all the bolts are out
im gonna go buy a blow torch on my lunch today see if that helps.
I have been usein a silde hammer on the passenger side then hittin it from the drivers side to push it out but had no look.

And was soakin it in WD40 all last night.

Should i get the blow torch and try that or is there no point ??
  34. #34
right this is the side everyone has trouble with, it is common on saxos for this one to sieze. i used a can of stuff called rustola. getit right in the splines and round the back. a wire brush would be handy to and just get as much shit off as you can. finr a big bar- i used my hydrolic jack handle!!! place it on the torsion bar on the drivers side, next a big hammer, and hit it like a bitch. should come out.
  35. #35
yep like he said, instead of buying a blow torch buy a lump hammer, u dont really wnna go spending more money on it, else u cuda just paid to have it done lol, give it a good 1/2 hr working over with wd40 or rustola or anythin like and the brush get out all the shit and rust u can see on obth ends of the bar and the inside edges where it locates, if u have a pick, scrat at it and get it all out, then keep hammering, i dont know whether if you remove the rear arch plastic you can gain better access for the slide hammer or not so that mite be worth a look
  36. #36
    again as above ^^^

but i found i couldnt get the amount of force i needed with the slide hammer. its fine with the drivers side torsion bar, but the passenger side you really need to get some force on it. if you have to go out buying alot of tools to dio it you might aswell take it to a garage!!!!
  37. #37
    DAM
I have just bought a blow torch. lol
    I will try this first.
Wat and were do i wanna put the blow torch to eas it out ??
I will try spraying shit loads of WD40 on it before tryin the burner and sand down both ends of the bar.
  38. #38
i dunno if it was me i would remove the rear trim just incase it got too hot etc, id apply heat in small quantities to the passenger side end, while you get a mate to hit the bar from the other side, try it in small amounts first, just dont scrape or dirty ure blow torch then take it back after the jobs done. get sum progress pics up to mate this ud be a good thread for others to use as a guide :Y:
  39. #39
    Good idea
    I will do mate
  40. #40
    u managed it yet mate?
  41. #41
    No i give up totally.
It looks like the bar itself has been welded shut and it not budging at all.
    Can you help ???
  42. #42
take picture and post it up matey so i can see,im gettin pissed of 4 ya now!
  43. #43
well my mate took a pic today for me so 2moz at work i will post it up for you.
Plus im going to a garage see wta they say.
  44. #44
Here you go not brilliant but you can see what i mean

    Any ideas ???
  45. #45
you can see all the splines all the way round except that little bit.
I was gonna get a chizel and hit it up so that it might free it but not sure
  46. #46
yeah its just tight as the torsion bars fit really tight in together, just keep on hitting it, and try that socket method anything is worth a go, try heating that bit with your blow torch see if it makes any difference, heat it for a while tho not just a flash of heat, b so much easyier if it was like the drivers side lol

hopefully it will cum out soon, keep on beating it, and hit all round the where it sits in with your hammer a few times to crack the rust off
  47. #47
    ok cool mate.
I was heating the front of the torsion bar last night for quite a long time.
Is there anything else i can do at all ???
  48. #48
my mate here says get 2 mates round, get 1 to do the socket and spacer method, 1 to put weight on the trailing to stop it budging as you hit from the other side and then in sync with each other you hit the bar from the drivers side as a mate winds up your makeshift puller from the drivers side and it will cum out, ive never experienced 1 this siezed before and ive done 6.
    i hope this works

u got msn? easyier to explain more on there
  49. #49
    ye add me its
    mk3golf@hotmail.com

do you mean to push the arm down ??
    or pull it up ??
  50. #50
have added you matey, neither up or down just force against it so when you the torsion bar it aint tryin to take the arm its situated in with it
  51. #51
Cool speak to you when i get home
  52. #52
Not a chance mate i think its well and truely fucked.
It wont even budge a little and i have tryed everything
  53. #53
take it sumwhere and get it done then matey n ow much av tools cost ya so far to do it?
  54. #54
i would say about £40 if that
  55. #55
ohh not that bad then, did u try it with two mates helpin tryin everything at once? u tryed socket and space whilst hitting it yeah? see if a mobile mechanic will cum out nd do it
  56. #56
Ye i tryed everything you could think of last nite with my mate even took the othere torsion bar out first to see if that was effecting it but it wont move at all.
And it didnt help me smash shit out of it with a chizle lol
but hay i will see wat the garage say and some lad who thinks he can get it out this weekend.
  57. #57

Thats wat it looks like on the side i have lowered
    wat do you think ?
  58. #58
    looks like mine
