Airbags Again

Now i know this has been brought up manymanymanymany times before but im looking for some clarification. My airbag warning light is constantly on as soon as i turn the car on and i dont know why.

My problem is ive heard that a constant light means an airbag problem not the pretensioners, is this bull crap?

If so would people just suggest fiddling with the cables and then failing that put a resistor between the two wires for the pretensioner?

if its the airbag what the hell is the first step towards fixing it?

hi fella, right first off and easiest, open bonnet and undo both the battery terminals, leave the car for ten minutes like this as to allow the airbag electrical circuit to lose power, then undo the lower steering column cover and find the orange wire that should be connected to the back of steering wheel follow the wire down and there is a brown connector, undo this plug. if you have an aftermarket wheel without airbag you need to fit a resistor in the female plug of this connector to give the right voltage to the airbag ecu. if you have a normal steering wheel with airbag then just clean terminals and plug back together.

second step is to find the orange wiring underneath each seat and locate the wiring plug on this wire either side. best option for this is to cut the plugs off and fit a resistor between the wires coming up from the carpet not the seat side. solder a resistor in place and then tape up with electrical tape this will also give the pretensioner ecu the correct voltage but will disable the pretensioners.

and what resistance do i need then?

Just take the airbag light out, job done no worries.

and then fail an MOT with the new warning light ruling? no thanks

rules state if it has one it must flash on startup and not stay on for an mot

Remove all airbags then take out the ecu.

people are so helpful these days. that was sarcasm btw ... cheers to the guy who actually gave some good help

Well the problem can either be the pretensioners, the wiring, the brown plug under the seat. Or the airbag ecu itself. So it may come to you have to remove everything. I dontm see a thing wrong with anyone's comments on here to be honest.

I believe a 3 ohm resistor does the trick. Might be 2 ohm though. Cheap as chips anyway! But I can have a quick look now mate!

From another thread but you get the idea

    never failed my mot.

EDIT: Didnt realise that there was a new MOT rule about airbag lights, I meant it in a genuin way of fixing it, but i guess no that wont work now.

+1 Advisory about the airbag light, cable was unplugged under the seat
