206 gti brake conversion.

  1. #1
Hello was wondering if i needed to change the master cylinder if i wanted to change my brakes to 266?
  2. #2
Not realy necessary but alitof people do change it

Just depends how much pedal travel you like to have

i have 283mm brakes and i kept the oem master cylidner on both my vts and gti, i personally dont see anything wrong with the existing cylidner i dont feel as if there is much more travel than i used to have with the old vtr brakes

my housemate has 206 gti brakes (has the same size piston as a gti 6 caliper iirc) and he wants a bigger cylinder all down to preference

best thing to do really, make sure its all bled proeprly, last thing you want is to bleed it wrong and it feels shit and think its down to the master cylinder, mine felt not great at all when i first fitted them seemed to have laods of travel and few days later it seemed so much better, probably just the pads bedding in

Do the 206 calpiers/discs/pads fit straight on VTR/VTS then.

    not so straight

ou normaly have to grind a bit off either the rear of the caliper or the strut

it is also advised to fit longer custom brake lines as the standerd items have being known to pull tight on extremes of lock and suspension travel.
this can and has led to premature failure of the lines with out any warnings

also if the above is detected it is an mot failure

    My bad lol.

your not all worng mate, not all calipers need grinding, my housemates 206 ones didnt need grinding, my gt6 ones did though, i hought it was jsut gti6 calipers that needed grinding hence why i didnt say anything as the OP wants 206 brakes

im running oem length hoses and just had an mot no problems at all, everyone i spoke to that has gti6 brakes all run standard length hoses with no issues

cheers, the thought of GTi6 brakes appeals to me, i like to stop
  16. #16
206 gti brakes will stop you just as well as GTI6 brakes, apart from the 266mm 206 gti brakes wont be adding a huge anti-beneficiary amount of unsprung mass.

    Gti6 are 283mm

As said 206gti the early one use 266 and are just as capable as the gti6 items
Just use good disks and pads
