Inner plastic arches at front

  1. #1
Has anyone taken theirs out and got rid of them??

    Are they really needed?

Any issues without them in like water into engine bay?

Just that mine are a bit tired and broken, i took them out to clean etc but wondered if i can get away without them.

    Cheers

i know that few people dont have them and have no probs, engine bay may get some splash of dirt/mud on a rainy day!
  3. #3
never had mine on due to wide wheels rubbing on them, never caused me a problem

OK cheers guys, ive undersealed it all under there so that should help.

    Thanks

If they were not really required do you think Citroen would have put them there. True they have no safetly factor but they do stop all the muck from the road eembedding itself all round the inside of the wing the door shut and more importantly over all the electrics like the washer motor the horn if its that side
Not a major issue until you need to work on any of the parts that have had months of road dirt embedded round them

are you saying that with them fitted no dirt, mud, water etc gets into the wings? its still filthy behind them, as long as you are up for cleaning behind regularly i cant see any problems

All thats going to happen is everything will get covered in wet dirty road muck a whole lot more than without them, which eventually will lead to rust, a lot sooner than if you had arch liners. And as these cars don't exactly do well on the rust front anyway, i'd be wary of leaving them off unless you're willing to keep cleaning the arches out well.

thats why you clean the arch out now and then

Mine still had the inner plastic bits in the front arches and I still had to get two mahousive holes welded up...

Yes well dirt etc is still going to get trapped between the liner and arch, just because you have arch liners doesn't mean you don't have to clean your wheel arches. One of my pet hates. I'm not being personal, i'm just talking in general.

my westie aint got them and the door shuts are full of shit. also found when driving in snow the tyres threw up loads of slush and ice into the shuts and made opening the doors difficult. found out that the previous owner had fitted the wrong offset wheels and thats why they were removed.

Well i still have them, im fitting new coil springs tomorrow so maybe put them back, my cars are washed 2-3 time over about 10 days so wont be that bad.

You dont have too have them on, but you should.
  15. #15
Theres a reason cars have these.

Mine didnt come with any...And i know for a fact they have been off for at least 3 years.
both the doors are fucked. Theres rust, but thankfully it hasnt gone all the way through. the doors are a paint to open and close now, really loud clunking noise (could be the pins though!) and the electrics are shagged.
I would leave them on if you dont have a real need to take them off

    By law, no you don't.

But that's like saying, by law, do you need to close your sunroof during a massive rain storm?

    No its not.

The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986

    4th + 5th paragraph...
  24. #24
Yeah but is that 'law' or just a good bending over?
  25. #25
Its law as in, contrary to section whatever of The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations Act 1986... the car can't have any parts showing that make it dangerous to anyone (which includes taking wheel arch liners off ).

Obviously in reality and common sense, you can take them off if you want... i was just saying

Dudes you's are arguing about inner arches. As far as im concerned they should be in. (imo)

    Whats next dust caps
  27. #27
Im not arguing ... just answering OP's questions...

"Has anyone taken theirs out and got rid of them??" - Yep (car sold to me without em)

"Are they really needed?" - By law, yeh

"Any issues without them in like water into engine bay?" - Shit on inner door pillars

"Wondered if i can get away without them." - Probably... unless you get stopped by a wanker from west yorkshire police
