Raising rpm on turbo car

  1. #1
Ive been looking at whats needed to raise the rev limit on a turbo'd engine. Is it just the same as a N/A engine but with different cams?

Just getting a larger turbo so thinking of raising the rpm higher than standard to get a wider powerband.

My engine has currently got catcam fastroad turbo cams but ive been told there similar to 708s!

higher rev limit doesnt always mean fast car, if its turbo'd then surely uve got something done to the ECU? otherwise remap..

Ive got a fully forged engine to drop into the car, not a basic build. Along with omex ecu and so on.

Just looking for a wider powerband with a larger turbo and woundered what the costs would be.

Speak to whoever is mapping the car for you.

Rev limit will be set at where the engine starts to run out of puff.

If you are using the 735 cams and a GT28 size turbo then it will likely keep pulling to 7500rpm+. Most mappers will set the rev limit to 7600rpm if using hydraulic lifters.

Won't cost you anymore to change the rev limit. Just have it suited to what cams you have.

If you want to rev higher you'll have to go solid lifters which are around £300 i think + the machining costs which are high and maintenance.

It will take a special turbo to run into the high revs though. Most off the shelf will start running out at 7000-7500rpm. The current Owens Dev. GT2868HTA will work nice but its £1500+

Im going to be using a td05, ive been told the max psi it would be ok for is 22psi obviously wouldnt really need to ever run it at that but it is a faily big turbo and told it spools around same as a gt28rs maybe a tad later but makes slightly more power.

I dont know if these cams will make it more laggy though!

A mate of mine had a 1.6 vtec crx with a gt3071 but think it wasnt quite a standard one as was running quite alot of power and not alot of boost (and wasnt cheap either) but he only used this turbo on the 1.6 due to it having the vtec and revving upto 9k so had a bigger powerband. He is currently building a 2.0 with a ITR head.
