Cam belt change?

Okay so I started getting a strange rattle, I thought it was the heatsheild as it rattled before and I had it fixed. The only way to describe the sound would be take some debris and add a moving part, every now and then say, this moving part would catch the debris and throw it around inside a case this noise would drop in at 2,200rpm then would stop above/below this rpm, usually worse when slowing down past 2,200 rpm (would be audible for longer).

It then advanced into, please note I'm not mechanically minded so it's a guess description, a belt slipping noise, like really bad high pitched screeching when hitting that rev, if I do around 2,200rpm constantly it will make this noise and its fooking loud and makes everyone stare at me so I have to change gear, now it will make this screeching noise quietly when idling, also when hitting around 3,500 rpm too in all gears.

I had my alternator changed recently with a brand new one/new belt/what ever other shit comes with a £170 alternator change.

So I assume it could be my cam belt? From what I read these need doing at around 70,000 miles? And mine is on 69,000.

What else could I get done whilst they are changing my cam belt? I've heard of a head skim is this something that could be done/worth doing? Also my engine is a bit tappy/doesn't sound very smooth, could I get my tappets adjusted? Anything else worth doing whilst my engine will be in pieces?

    Thanks for suggestions guys.

Not worth doing a headgasket if its only the Cambelt that's wrong.

If you want work done around this area by lads that know what they're doing and not 'friends of friends' or the monkeys that work in most garages, take it to Beaniemoo on here. Local as well in MK. Prices are unbeatable also.

Edit; Whoever told you that your engine will be in pieces for a cambelt is talking utter bollocks. Its a belt mate, you undo an engine mount, lift the engine up a tad with a jack, change a belt and drop it back into place.

The cambelt wont slip if it did jump teeth it would send your valve's north, the head wont need skimming if its not blown the headgasket.

You sure the alternator belt dont need adjusting as its new, you got any leaks as in oil etccc?

It'll be a belt is on too tight.

But as to which remains to be seen until a video or someone trustworthy who isn't after your money takes a look at it.

I think the bearing in the Alternator has shat itself from the description.

Just wondering if you read my post. No one told me it would be in pieces I said at the time I am not mechanically minded and that my descriptions are guesses... I haven't a clue how to change a cam belt otherwise I'd do it myself.

'Monkey' doesn't describe the Mechanical Engineer that will be repairing my car. He has toured with the Subaru Rally team in years gone by. He knows his shit and knows it well.

Might I add assumption is the mother of all fuck ups sir, so don't assume anything, thank you for your comments/suggestions though, I shall mention this when I see him later on today.

    @Cam

Apparently my engine is in good nick with no oil leaks/real issues, though that was said around January. So might've decided to break somewhere, I haven't had much luck with the saxo tbh, spent over £1,200 in repair bills in less than a year and I only paid £800 for it lol, kinda hate it, though I had a dream it went 'missing' and I really missed it to the point I was nearly crying.. How weird lol.

Since I can remember I've had this annoying noise where by at the back of the car it sounds like it's knocking all the time, I thought it was either my spare wheel cage or my plug for my rear wiper banging, anyways turns out my d/s rear shock is completely shagged the bush has gone. (Probably something to do with being green or something? I asked what kind of bush and he said 'suspension bush' think that's the plants latin name? Not sure what kind of plant that is as I can't find anything on it in national geographic trolololol))

Anyway, my exhaust is rattly/weird as well said that it may have something in it, like a pebble or something.

He basically said he can't find the main squeaking noise as every time he knocks the car to replicate the squeaking everything else rattles and he can't hear it's location properly, he thinks it's an engine mount, but the lower ones are perfect apparently so he'll need to fix the other stuff and locate it tomorrow. So much for a cam belt lol, just me worrying and thinking of the worst lol.
