Gearbox changes

Are all of the gearboxs 1.1 to 1.6 8v to 16v interchangeable with each other, as in do they mount the same and with no change to any gear linkages.
ive got a 1.4 8v engine and a 1.6 16v gearbox will it marry up right or will changes be needed?

Yes, all MA boxes are physically interchangable. I have a 1.1 box on my 1.4 and the acceleration is mad compared to the old box. Motorway cruising sucks on the 1.1 box though. Only thing you will need to look at when selecting a box, other than condition of course, is what ratios it will have in it. There's a thread around somewhere that gives all the different box ratios.

As above for the most part all the boxes are interchangeable, that said I once encountered an issue with a 1.4 box and when I did some research for a certain period the 1.4's did have a different box on them that wasnt interchangeable
i did once find a post on here to that effect but cant remember where or how
    maybe worth a search

mines a 2000 pug 306 which has the nfz engine from i think the furio if i'm right. and the gearbox ive found is from a vts what kind of problem would the different ratios cause? coz surely i'd be using less revs on the motorway with a 1.6 gearbox which is better for me for work usage

    Wrong i'm afraid.

The vts box will rev high on motorways.. it's very very similar to a 1.1 box.

If you want lower rev's @ 70mph.. Then the 1.4 box is ideal. As is the VTR box, or a diesel box.

Look on here for all the ratios.. http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=125615

thats in second gear mate the vts rev range is higher according to that which means the revs would be lower near top end surely

Ah i see now the gear box off a furio and vtr are the same in that case wereas the vts seems to be a closer ratio box

so i'm best off with a vtr or furio box realy, so in that case they should deffinately fit mine being the 8v nfz block then?
