Bouncy Idle

  1. #1
Sonetimes my cars revs will start bouncing between about 500 and 600 rpm and will have a flat spot when i accelerate. Anyone one know the possible causes for this or just any general help? i cant figure it out because it only happens some of the time

    cheers

Try cleaning the idle control valve using the guide mate.Coil pack can cause flat spots too.

    Sound's like mine.

Only happens when I boot it.. Then to get it back to normal I turn the ignition from 2-3 7 times and fire.. with a perfect idle.. until I boot it again.

That's with a brand new ICV.. However I need lambda's.. so that might be the cause.

I'll be watching this to see if you find a solution.

Mine used to do that, It never bothered me as all 4 of my mates that had saxos there's also did it.

well ive just bought the car and it has had a full service and a top-end rebuild just before i bought it so expected it to be ok but low and behold trouble within two weeks lol

My lamda sensor is brand new and it didnt stop it so ive crossed that off the list. My problem will go away after a while and then come back on every morning for some reason.

Check air flow/ MAF/MAP sensors, if they changing them doesn't work then try coolant temp sensors, my Toyota MR2 has been doing this and that's what i've been told to check since i've already cleaned the ICV. Also check the coilpack if you have a mate with the same engine as you, just swap and reset the ECU then take it for a run.

Mine does this randomly, if you boot it up to 2k it might clear, if not get it to 1,500 then slowly take it down to 1k and it should sort it. Mine done it so bad once it cut out, quite wierd.

    Hey guys,

How do yuou clean the idle valve?
Car has started to idle jsut below 1000 revs only by about 100 but dont want it to cause any problems in the future. figured it might be the valve that needs cleaning.

Has anyone cleaned theirs? and steps on how to do this?

    Cheers!
