Dreaded indicator tick..

As part of my MOT I had to replace the indicator stalk, was getting the quickened ticking with no indication when indicating left.

Now the new (it was used) indicator stalk works fine when indicating left and right, but I've now developed a continual 'tick' when not indicating! The forums search function suggests that it's likely to be the relay, but if I jam my finger into the indicator stalk hole on the steering column and prod the stalk, the ticking stops. I remove my finger and it starts again - this doesn't seem like something the relay would respond to?

Is the stalk knackered, in the which case it'll be going back to the seller, is it possible/likely to be the relay, or is there possibly something else that needs checking?

    Cheers

I'd ask for a working one and get that off the seller, however it could be bad again so try and source a brand new unit if thats what it wasnt is was to being with. You can open them up and clean up the contacts and alter their positions like I did, and its worked a treat but it is fiddly to do

Thatll more than likely be the stalk then. Not really too difficult to do.

Drove mine to work this morning, the ticking isn't constant, but does start and stop when the wheel is moved sometimes and is most likely to do it for a period just after indicator has been cancelled.

If I push the stalk in, as in towards the centre of the steering column there is a little bit of give, and this appears to stop the ticking. Hoping its a loose connection which I can clean up or secure, but got a horrible feeling I'll need a new stalk!

Had the first problem a while back, my solution was just putting a little more pressure on the indicator when indicating. It has worked fine ever since.

I did that for about three years. Then it failed the MOT so had no choice but to change it.

Now its passed the MOT but is likely to drive me to go on a full Anders Breivik.
