Trouble starting

    Hi Guys,

    I've got a mk2 VTR which I have recently rebuilt the head on.
    I've had a small amount of headwork done and a Kent cam put in, the car was fine after all of this and a bit of tinkering.

    But about a week or so later (the car was off road) I decided to replace the clutch, so I went ahead and done this and got the car back on the road around 3 weeks ago.

    Since I’ve got the car back on the road she's been having a little trouble starting, the last couple of days she's been refusing to start without a little bump start! Can’t be dealing with all this strategic parking malarkey!

    So here is my dilemma;
    I don’t think it is an issue with the battery, as it is less than a year old, and no other symptoms of a dead battery occur (Windows, wipers, radio and everything are fine with the ignition on)
    The starter motor was removed, obviously to change the clutch and I gave the outside a bit of a clean with an engine degreaser.
    It was fine when i put it back on, but around 2-3 days later it started playing up.

    The starter motor ticks over really slowly, but sometimes just bursts into life and kicks the engine into life. Other times, it just ticks over really slowly and makes the occasional ticking noise, where it stops for 5-10 seconds and resumes ticking over slowly.

    I plan to try a different battery on the weekend, and hopefully rule that one out, but does it sound like it is the starter motor on its way out, or anything else I should be looking out for?

    Any help will be much appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Jason

    Try the earth on the gearbox mate, also fuse box area could have caught a wire

    Cheers guys, there was a lose connection, but I've put the battery on charge too so I'll try it in the morning
