Important! : Saxo drive shaft problem need help

    Hi all

I have a 02 furio which has had a 2000 year VTS conversion. I have kept the 1.4 box on for now and has been running fine for the last year or so. The other day I had a ticking noise so took it to the garage and it was the drivers side drive shaft bearing. Even though I have a 1.4 box I have VTS drive shafts that were put on when I had the engine done. Now the garage have put a new VTS shaft on and all was fine for a week and now the same thing has happen again. They changed it under warranty and then again a week late the bearing went again. This has gone on 3 times now and we are all confused why the bearing at the gearbox end keeps failing. Does anyone have any ideas. Really need help.

    Thanks

You need to check what type of wheel bearing are used, either tapered or flat then use the corresponding drive shaft as there are two types

Yer mine are tapered an they are the ones we are putting on. But for some reason it's mashing up the bearing were it conects to the gear box.

Oh sorry got the wrong bearing lol

Erm not sure what would cause a problem with the gearbox side bearing

Do you have the intermediate bearing carrier fitted? About halfway along bolted to the engine is a carrier and the bearing fits into it? There are two bolts that hold the bearing in place once in the carrier, if they are not there the bearing and shaft can move and will chew itself eventually.

Why would you need this if the furio never came fitted with one?

Because the VTS did come with one, and thats the engine he has fitted.
Since a Furio has a quoted 75 bhp and 88 lb-ft of torque it doesnt need the intermediate bearing.
Compared to the VTS which has a quoted 120 bhp and 107 lb-ft of torque. Thats before you start modding it.

He said he's using vts shafts which use the intermediate bearing carrier on the o/s, if you look at the design it basicly achieves the effect of having equal length driveshafts, and having the support from the bearing carrier helps to prevent the driveshaft from ruining itself.

They replaced the drive shaft with the same VTS one as before that last me ages. This only started happening after the garage rebuilt the head because the cam belt went. So I dont know if it would be anything to do with that

    Anyone had this problem before?
