16v Lumpy Idle

  1. #1
The rev counter hardly moves but it sounds cammed, when it came off the bottom of the temp gauge it was fine. Just randomly started doing it. Cut out once or twice.

If reved up to like 2000rpm and held it for a few seconds it was okay then it done it again after like 1 minute but as i say when it was warm it was fine :s

    Any idea?

have you looked at the condition of your throttle body? and the quality of your oil, if your oil is past its prime, you may have carbon build up, my suggestion is to get a teflon coating treatment, and service it, perhaps the best thing you can do is to seafoam it, it costs about £20 and is like a 20-30 min fix (read up on it on google, and watch youtube for instructional videos (this stuff disolves insoluble carbon from your valves and really cleans the engine (it did my car the world of good as it also cleans the cat, the o2 sensors, the injectors and air intake system)), change oil, add a teflon coating treatment or something like marvelous mystery oil (thats the really good stuff) thats what I did to fix my rough idle. takes an hour and a half, and shold cost no more than £60 including filter and oil ect, (ebay is a goodplace to get oil) (mobil1 is best in my opinion, or if you strech the budget, castrol magnetec) good luck

Coolant temp sensor at an educated guess. I have a feeling its the green one ( the one actually in the thermostat ) . Quite common and a lot of people overlook it as they don't think it would affect idle etc, but it does

I thought of that, ive just had another vts engine put in because my cambelt snapped. But ive used every sensor off my old engine and it never was this bad. Cut out a few times not as much as now. Its when its cold its worse. Any idea how much a coolant temp sensor is?
