i know its been done a few times but i cant seem to find the info to help. so here we start. if on tick over car is a bit eratic on revs, then if i cruise at a steady speed it will splutter and not run right but if i put my foot down and boot it then its fine all the way though the revs. so far i have changed the spark plugs, changed the fuel filter, changed the thermostat as was not warming up and cleaned the ICV went for a good 70 mile drive last nite and still playing up. any help and ideas would be good. some one said to clean the map sensor but not sure where that is so i shall look for that and see if that makes a difference.

#2MAP sensor is on the front of the gearbox where it meets the engine, can't miss it

#3^^^^ lol!
That would be the crankshaft sensor.
The MAP sensor is on the left hand side of the inlet mate.
You can't really clean them - well you can, but make's no difference.
I'd try a new ICV.

#5But I wouldn't worry about it, everyone wants their cars to run perfect.. they won't..

#6i cant just leave it the way it is as its unbearable and coisting me a fortune in petrol coz putting my foot down to drive smooth.

#7not sure if this will be of any help to you ,i have had the same trouble with my vtr 10 yrs old now, had lots of trouble in finding the cause. and then, hay presto the fault revealed its self , the coil pack was sparking to the rocker box cover, it could be seen quite clear,---cost me £85 for a new coil pack, it is well worth a look , the new bosch coil pack has now got a greater distance from the rocker box cover,-------regards g3wrf.

#9100% your ICV mate.. Try and clean it or get another 1 - they're only cheap.
Also you can reset your ICV when it goes on a mad one.. Turn key to 3rd click, then back to 2nd.. do that 7 times and start.
100% works, I have to do it everyday/drive
