Car wont start - weird goings on

  1. #1
So i got in the 2001 VTR yesterday and it took 3 attempts to start it, all 3 times it turned over for about 1 second then stopped, 4th time it started fine.

Drove it for about 5 miles and the EML light flashed then stuck on.

Got home, turned car off, left it 10 minutes and started it again, fine but EML light still on.

I thought by disconnecting the battery it might reset any fault??

Well today it wont start at all, turns over fine and fast but no spark, not even trying to fire.

Any ideas guys - saxo new to me, only had it on the road a few weeks.

    Thanks

    Andy

If the EML light is on, get it diagnosed. You can either do it at a garage.. But i'd recommend buying a code reader from ebay. (cost about 20 pounds.. Same as a dignostic check)
It will then give you the code to your problem.. And can go from there?
    Hope this helps

Cheers, i thought they were much more than that

    Nice one cheers.

Ive just used a sealey one and it came up with 1 fault:

    P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

That make any sense to anyone ????

I reset it but still wont start, just no spark at all, only turns over.

A code P0300 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

    Faulty spark plugs or wires
    Faulty coil (pack)
    Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
    Faulty fuel injector(s)
    Burned exhaust valve
    Faulty catalytic converter(s)
    Stuck/blocked EGR valve / passages
    Faulty camshaft position sensor
    Defective computer

That's what the code stands for, its 9/10 coil pack though.. As you say you've no spark - but you could always try the plug's first - but very unlikely that all 4 will fail at the same time.

I'd sell it for £15 - imagine postage will be £3-5, so £18 posted? Its used but working.

Nope, still not working, so its not the coil packs.

So whats next: Faulty camshaft position sensor or Defective computer ????

What should the immobiliser light do on the dash, mine goes out almost instantly

The 'Faulty camshaft position sensor' or as we know it, the crankshaft sensor is on the front of the engine - where the gearbox meet's the block, the sensor is there.. 2 bolts and its off.

Not too sure about immobilizer light.. i'll take note when I take the car out later

Just ordered a new crackshaft sensor, pick that up at 5pm, hoping its that

Where is the MAP sensor on a 2001 VTR ???
  16. #16
Left hand side of the inlet mate, just 1 bolt and it's off.

Just to add here a camshaft sensor & a crank sensor are 2 different things, only the vts has the camshaft sensor(correct me if i`m wrong peeps)

From a mechanic mate a Citroen Slough

'When Vauxhall crank sensors fail it uses the cam sensor info for the engine position, hence it will still start, maybe rough though. Citroen only uses a crank sensor, so if it fails it has no fall back.'
