Air bag light on

  1. #1
    Hello all

just need some advise really, my saxo vts air bag light is on as i have removed the seats and steering wheel and cut the wires. My mot isnt due until january. But i really need help in how to make the light disappear. I was told that i can connect the seat and steering wheel wires to my passenger air bag which will make the light switch off. But weither this is true or not is a different story. As i dont want to start pulling things out and apart when it really aint going to work.

    Any suggestions please

    thanks : )

on the carpet behind the centre console there is a square lump that you will feel. if you slit or lift up the carpet to gain access to it you will see the airbag ecu. if you remove the brown plug i think it is that will remove the light off your dash. before you disconnect though make sure your battery has been disconnected 15min to half hour before hand

Thank you for that, but there is only one slight problem that i still have. If i was to do this wouldnt that mean that the light will never come back on the dash if i was to switch the ignition on? As for the MOT all dash lights must be seen to be working on the dash and switch off when the car is running.

yes thats true but it just depends where you get it tested. it should be a fail but mine never did. they dont usually notice if it comes on.
if your worried so much so about it then re-wire it. i dont think theres another fix that will allow it to come on and go off

    Fit a 1.8ohm resistor!

On the mot point my car got an advisory for airbag light on but did not fail due to this but was a bit surprised as new rules said this was a fail ? however im not sure how they would feel if you remove the bulb or unplug the airbag ecu

It HAS to come on at Ignition, but then go off once the engines running. Its the new MOT laws.

If you fit a 1.8ohm resistor into the system, then it will take out the problem. It will make the Airbag ecu think that the Pre-Tensioners are still in the system and return with the correct signal. The same with the steering wheel Airbag ECU signal.

5 amp blade fuse & 2 lengths of cable, then connect up to the plug going to the airbag squib.Result airbag light comes on then goes out as per normal.

Ok I shall try this. Thank for all your help

I just ripped all my airbags, pre-tensioners, airbag ecu etc all out, still passed a MOT the other week without advisory for airbags

Airbag light should be a fail, however like a few others have said, mine only got an advisory and that was about 2 weeks ago! Just find a friendly tester

I was quite surprised by this as i had actually paid for the mot in advance so when i went in i adviser that i was replacing the bulbs and i noticedthat airbag one was missing but bulb was not fitted and ive now put it in and the light is on so will this fail and he went away checked with the tester who advised it would not fail.

Mine does come on at ignition stage then goes off but then comes on again flashing then goes solid and stays that way but surely in regards to warning lights the rules should be the same wherever you go ?

The rules should be the same, but testers know that with Saxo's the airbag light is a common problem without anything actually being wrong. So a lot of them just make you aware of it without actually failing it

Its odd as that is fine of course for those that have this problem but it does make a mockery off the whole mot thing as i guarantee i could take the car to say three different places in the sameday and the good chances they would all have something different to say on advisories on that my parking light dont work either but again there was no mention off this which i think just proves my point dont get me wrong that is not going to make the car dangerous but surely an airbag light is a no brainer as without being tested they dont know why the light is even on which does mean it is a safety issue especially if it goes off in my face lol.

But the vast majority of the time its to do with the pretensioners under the seats... Mine arent connected at all, it has no effect to how the main airbag deploys, and Mk1s cant deploy the seat airbags anyway so it makes no difference..

I understand that but surely the mot rules can not be car specific regardless if its common prob or not as that makes no sense ?
