   Will a 1996 106 gti gearbox fit a 2002 VTS?

   yes, they're all interchangable.

   Gearbox will fit , dont know 1. what final drive difference there is and
   2. what sensor you need for the speedo to work.

   you can easily swap sensors over pretty much everytime i swap a box the reverse sensor needs swapping over
