Code scanner - diagnostic tool query ?????

I bought one of these >>>

"Car fault reader code scanner diagnostic tool OBD 2 CAN"
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2306445331...84.m1423.l2648

works fine on my VTR 2001 Mk2 but no joy on the VTS 2000 Mk2

Plug in - ignition on - start the scan to find the right protocol and it runs through them all and finishes with "link error" ........... why and can anything be done to fix this

Have you tried it afew times?

I got same one (but for a mk2 vtr) and it read 'link error' at first, so i unplugged it and tried it again and it worked...

Yes I've tried several times (turn off the ignition and wait as the manual says etc.) but still no joy - annoying as it works really well on the VTR.
The on board plug is different on the VTS from that on the VTR - still connects as normal. Maybe something to do with the VTS being a 2000 (change over year model) but still doesn't explain why the scanner doesn't find the right connection protocol.

Thanks Prickle - mine works fine with the VTR - just a connection issue me thinks.

be because the vtr is obd2 or even Eobd where as the vts will be simple OBD

If true that makes sense, as well it states "Works with US vehicles from 96, UK, European and Asian vehicles from 2001, Diesels from 2004 on-wards with a compliant OBD-II" - nuts...2000 VTS

Don't suppose there's a simple solution in that case

yh 2001 onwards is OBD2/EOBD although all will have the universal 16 pin plug.
