Power steering pump smoking

   The power steering pump keeps smoking loads, is it totally knackered or is there something I can do to fix it. Its got plenty of fluid in by the way.

   pas pump smoking! inplug it asap dont want no vehicle fire now do you!! probs motor bushes shagged

   If I unplug it will I still be able to drive the car tho?

   yeah if you unplug it it wont make a difference to the way it drives doubt ut will work if its smoking

   I've unplugged it and just been for a drive and it's really hard to turn the car almost impossible, even when I've built up speed (nothing like turning a non power steered car), do u think there's something wrong with the steering rack?

   Well your fluid isn`t being pumped to steering ram thats why the steering is heavy,ignore the comment about having it unplugged not making any difference.Your pas pump has had it by the sounds of things.

   yeah its heavy because you have had to unplug it .. which means it isnt working now so you have no power steering.. buy yourself a new pump .. about £50 from second hand

   just get a new pump its your safest bet...

    If you want to continue using the car without the risk of fire then i`d unplug the pas relay,until you get a new pump.
