266mm brake upgrade question?

  1. #1
Hi, right want to upgrade my front brakes, so am looking to fit some 266mm discs and calipers on my vtr and also some new pads and braided hoses. Have been looking for some 206 gti calipers on ebay, have found these:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEUGEOT-20...ht_1901wt_1163

Not 100% sure if these are definitely the right ones, and also if they are any good, if anyone can clue me up or point me in the right direction would be appreciated! is there anywhere i could get reconditioned ones? also wanted to know can i bolt the calipers to the hub using the existing bolts or will i need new ones?

Make sure they are the early 206gti caliper as the 180gti uses a larger diameter disc (but are an overkill)
Also ask for the year they came from and if possible the reg number, makes it so much easier to source discs and pads to suit

Then pm for the braided lines, custom made to suit

Yeah they are the same as the ones i bought for mine. Came off a 2000 206 GTi . 266mm Discs. One of the best mods i did to my vts, much preferred them to my standard brakes. Also you can use the original bolts to hold the caliper on, will probably have to clean the thread a bit though as they have to wind in a bit further using these calipers.

are they just bolt off bolt on or are modifications needed?

Im fairly sure those ones are the type that will bolt straight on. The problem is with the carriers, sometimes you have a grind a small part off so they clear the strut. Literally a 5 minute job if you do have to. Other than that they are bolt on .

Thanks guys, found this thread here which has some really useful info:

I read the bit about needing matching bolts, so thats what made me think im gonna have to buy new bolts for them? Im trying to look for some of the bosch 266 calipers which dont need grinding, but its no huge drama if they do.

Afaik it's only the low spec models that have the incorrect bolts

Ahh ok i see, wasnt totally sure. Thinking about buying the calipers off the guy who did that thread on the 106owners forum, he supplies them refurbed and painted, for a pretty good price and with the right discs and pads if you need them. Saves me the hassle of trying to get all the right bits and buying a some potentially shit calipers of ebay.

Nice, so how much do you charge for front and rear braided lines?
  11. #11
Can do you the pair deliverd for £48.50

Fronts made to custom length to suit

You mean front and rears for 48.50 or just fronts? would i need to have custom length hoses for a 266mm conversion, or will standard length be ok?

That's for the set front and rear

If you fit them is up to you, people have fitted the calipers with standerd hoses without issue
Others have fitted the calipers and found that the hose pulls when on full lock and extremes of suspension travel.

If they pull over tight then they can fail with out warning!!!
It's also an mot failure if spotted

Personally with brakes I'd rather be safe than sorry a split brake hose when trying to brake hard in to a corner isn't a good thing
