I took my car to the garage recently because my gear stick is like stirring porridge and it keeps falling out of reverse. They told me it was the gearbox so I had it changed. I picked my saxo up today and drove it home the gears are exactly the same and it still falls out of reverse!. It's cost me £450. Can anyone suggest what it may be coz I don't wanna keep spending money on not fixing the problem if you catch my drift :/

#3+1 it'll be the linkages are worn, waying that there is a pin or something in the gearbox that attatches to the likages that wears also, a chap did a guide on here really indepth,
personally tho mate, i'd go back to the garage and kick off, £450 for a gearbox change in a saxo is redicularse
take probs 2 hours max to get the box out and back in again. i's held to the egine block by like 4 bolts, ok the drive shafts + ball joints may be a little bit of a git to get out but basically that gearbox cost you like £200

#4£450!! Bit steep tbh I
Had one done on my vts gearbox with 40k on it cost me £125 delivered and a mate whacked it in with my new clutch in no time for £20 as asaid I'd kick off. -
#5Thankyou! I've already kicked off haha and they fobbed me off, although that did include the clutch as well. Does anyone know what linkages I should get? It used to be a west coast but it's been converted to a vts engine with a vtr gearbox

#7Are they tight ones? Also is a quick shift universal? Like to engine size?. There boss is on holiday do I think they tried to pull a fast one and propa screwed me over!. Yea it's easier before you lower it, mines 2 inches off the floor so I can't even get a scissor jack under it haha
