problem with alternator :/

last week i sold a fully working alternator for a vts/gti.

buyer was happy, then got garage to fit it for him, now here's the problem:

got a pm off the buyer saying garage wont fit the alternator due to it being seized up. (they never tried it on the car, just looked at it)

    now my question is:

how the hell do you know if it has fully seized up just by looking at it and not trying it on the car??

it came from a fully working gti, even the little wheel for the belt span round.

    cheers

Because the spindle on the end wont spin (where the belt goes on) they are known for getting siezed my old on did. Happens if they sit for a while

it was spinning before i sent it though.
it cant seize up in the post over 2 days can it lol.

It could have got wet or thrown about in the post and bearings broke up, unless he just blagging and trying to send you his old one

dont think he's like that lol, if he sends it back i'll give him a refund .

just strange that a fully working item ends up apparently seized

then that makes me look bad.
imo i think the garage is talking utter bollocks myself, but if buyer sends it back i will have to issue a refund.

Strange maybe the garage can`t be arsed to fit it.Its like sometimes a garage will simply give a quote way over what it should be because they simply don`t won`t to do it.

Sounds like a scam to me - Sends you the duff alternator back and you refund thus getting his part for nothing.
Who buys an alternator second hand and then takes it to a garage to fit anyway?!

even if he sends the unit back, i know what mine looked like, and if it isnt the same one, he isnt getting any money.
iv told him why doesnt he fit it himself, takes 15 mins to do

not this one, it had flakey grey paint coming off it (no idea who painted it) and other little bits had grey overspray.

buyer is sending unit back as apparently the pulley for the belt doesnt spin whatsoever, strange....it did spin just before i sent it.
