fitting starter motor

hello guys, is it difficult fitting a starter motor to a saxo vts? is there much room to work with? any guides thanks

Pretty easy tbh. 3 bolts and the 2 nuts for the wiring. Way i usually do it is...

    Disconnect battery.
Jack it up, pair of axle stands underneath.
    Disconnect the nuts for the wires ( 13mm & 8mm iirc? )
Can get 2 of the bolts from underneath (13 mm)
Then remove the top one ( Also 13mm, may have to remove original airbox/ whatever filter you're running i cant remember 100%)
Then usually have to wiggle it out a bit as they are a reasonably tight fit, from underneath.

As haynes say....refitting is the reverse of removal lol

Dont think i missed anything :/ . Thats just the way i prefer to do it, i'm sure there are others.

Yeah its a bit fiddly but nothing compared to some other starter motors i've removed! As i say i don't think i forgot anything but not 100%

ill have a go when the motor comes. is there much room to work from underneath?
  8. #8
no need to jack it up

No need to jack it up can do it from the bay, if my car is on stands then I may undo the bottom bolt from underneith but I wouldn't bother if the car isn't already on stands

You can, its just a bit of a fiddle. Personally i prefer to do it from underneath but everyone's different. Only takes me 2 mins to get it on the stands so i'd rather do that. As i said though personal preference.

well starter came today, i have no axle stands so will be attempting it from the bay, can you see all 3 bolts from the bay or do you have to feel for them
  13. #13
    U want a hand pal?
  14. #14
you can see 2 from the top, the 3rd one you might have to feel for it, but it's pretty easy to do anyway.

ive undone 2 of the bolts one at the top and the other one straight down from that on near the bottom, i can't seem to see the other bolt at the top is the head of the bolt faceing the same way as the others if you get me?
  16. #16
in this pic the one at the bottom and the next one up ive done. the top bolt i strangely cant find (the pic is the new starter to go on)

  17. #17
Iiirc the fist two are on the gearbox side? The other one bolts into the gearbox so the head of the bolt is facing the driverside
  18. #18
the 2 i have done were going into the gear box, ive found a bolt at the top of the gear box looks like it is going in to the top bit of the motor, just dont want to undo it untill some one can let me know if thats the bolt
  19. #19
Just undo it the box won't fall out lol

really sorry on the poor quality but its this bolt in the pic, it sits on the gearbox side and it looks as it screws into the top hole on the starter on the other pic above, can any one confirm this
