I posted this exact same question OBD stands for onboard diagnostics it seems that later models used this so if you are looking to get one you need to find one with OBD as i was told all Saxo's have this but im not sure how it works and nobody was able to give a definitve answer either as to what it actually does as you cant get one with OBD for my 97 VTS ?

Is it not so you can monitor in real time when using diagnostic equipment?

OBD = 1 lambda sensor before the cat. usually on mk1's <2001.

    OBDII / ODB2 = 2 lambda sensors, 1 before / 1 after. usually on mk2's 2001+. (so the cat comes with a lambda hole)

Car's after 2001 must be fitted with the newer approved more expensive cat.. Don't know how strict this is though..
