Catalytic Convertor Question

  1. #1
Ok so i have finally got around to take it off to replace but have question about where it joins to the downpipe.

Is there supposed to be some kind of gasket there as theres not one there at the moment so if i need to get replacement can someone post a link to what i need.

One other query just being curious why does the bolt that connects them have a spring on it ?

    mk1 so its manifold, downpipe
    and then cat.

I may be blind and have not notice it in the downpipe but i only thought about it after i had taken car off axle stands and jack so could not be arsed trying to look for it but i thought i would have noticed it when i pulled it of ?

I think this is what i need can anyone confirm.

Also when i fit it i understand i should not use exhaust paste upwards of the cat incase it contaminates it, is this correct ? so i guess i just put in gasket then bolt it up ?

Thanks for the advice so far.

OP has a VTS so what MK it is makes no difference as the Cat was under then car on all of them.

There is a gasket between the bottom of the mani and the start of the CAT which you can get for like £3 at a parts place. There is also a fitting kit which usually includes this gasket and also the bolts needed which I would advise replacing anyway as the original ones are likely rusted.
