Driveshaft change, tinging noise

  1. #1
Driveshaft popped out outside the wank garage at the end of my road, they pushed me in and i didnt really have a choice but to have it done there.
Since its been changed theres been a metal tinging noise everytime i go over rough road or a bump.
I took it back and complained and the dragon there said they would check the driveshaft but if it wasnt that they would charge me to tell me what was wrong. She said you do have an altered suspension so its probably that, made me chuckle!

Now the fact that it wasnt happening before surely means theyre responsible? Even if it isnt closely related. I know its hard to prove.

So what could be the problem? And where do i stand with them?

Cv joint or the dust guard might be damaged even if its new. Could also be anything on the suspension for that wheel..such as a slightly loose droplink or even something like a wheel nut

Apparently they tightened everything when they checked it, might jack it up and just go over everything

Go over it all yourself before you take it to them. Take some pictures of how components sit and then take it to them too, then you know if they change what they said.

Is the sound more of a loud metallic knock or just a small ping?

Its loud enough to hear when musics on quiet.
But it can ping really quickly when going over rough ground. Quite a high pitched ting, metal on metal

    Bumpings

Sounds like a clamp will be hitting some part of the suspension.

Don't know where youd stand with the garage, they'll probably try rip you off.

Say that it wasnt doing it before, and mention trading standards if you really arn't happy...

I might take it back again and put my foot down, or just have a look myself.

Trading standards always shits people up! Haha

Was it the drivers side shaft they changed?

There is a metal intermediate bearing what bolt's to the back of the engine block.

My bolt's came out once.. and made a tinging noise over bumps etc.

Yeah it was, sounds like thats what it is.

Easy to do? Or should i take it back and get them to do it?

It's 3 bolt's half way along the shaft to the back of the engine, are abit of a sqeeze.. but doable on axle stands.

Not sure what size bolts.. quite a wide thread though.

Bearing is held in by 2 "golf club" bolts..

Normally if they arnt tightened properly it will knock and sound like a knackered driveshaft...
