Best Tyre to buy?

  1. #1
    Hey,

So, I have a new saxo and I've got to change the front tyres as they are a little smooth looking (cheap "arrowhead" tyres, so not much to look at and drives a bit odd).

I am after something between say 40 and 60, that will make my little vtr a beast when handling. Its NOT for track or racing, but I travel about 800 miles a month to and from work, so something which will last longer than 6 months would be a bonus too.
Looking for 2 fronts to start, might get a 4 set if the price / deal is right though.

So far I've been pointed at these:

But dont know what size to get - the car has been lowered (see pics on my thread, but I dont know exactly by how much) At the moment they are 155 if that helps.

Always used toyo's, people say they are overrated.. but they do the job brilliantly so why change.

Although they do wear out fast. Had to change my 1st front set after 6k, second after 8k miles (long motorway trip).

ps. no I don't wheelspin everywhere. the inside's wear fast on my car. Don't know why, tracked / only lowered 35mm.

So certainly not a long lasting tyre! but grippy in the wet and dry, and let's face it... who mind's burning 2 set's of rubber a year when they are £36 each.

I have these on the BM, they last, and are pretty grippy

I don't rate ku31's. Toyo T1R's are ok. If on that budget I would go for Parada Spec 2's, as long as you have some balls because they don't like water.

Do not get prada spec 2's, they are dangerous in the wet. They're not great in the dry either.

T1r's are good, just don't last. I've read good feedback on pe2's and rainsport 2's.

T1Rs are definitely over rated on this forum. They are not that good in the wet, they wear out far too fast considering they are not that much of a performer in the dry in comparison to other tyres available in the same budget.

Rainsport 2's have always been my choice in that price range.

What size are you after? If Toyo CF1s are available in your price range then I would consider them along with the Rainsport 2's.

Both of the above are predictable tyres in all weather conditions, they are by far the best I that price range from what tyres I have tried. They also wear reasonably well.

+1 to toyo CF1's to be fair

Very under rated tyre, probably because of its appearance and its in the more family car category. However, I do rate them quite highly, and a few others with experience in tyres rate them!

Not sure if they are available in that size but Hankook V12 Evo's. Or Uniroyal Rainsport 2's for me. My T1-R's seemed to wear pretty quickly, weren't that great in the wet, and if i'm honest not amazing in the dry. Personal preference though!

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I'm after 14 inch 195's ideally, to fit the current look of the car, don't really want to put 15's in if I can help it.

Going to have a proper look on payday - will let ya'll know.

Standard 14" size is 185/55/14 so I would definitely consider CF1s. They would be my choice, great tyre.

Was only looking at Uniroyal Rainsport 2's after having them on, on my old TD's
Brother has Toyo T1R's on his mini, but they do seem overrated - not looked at CF1's, but that gives me the option to do that now!
As said though Uniroyal Rainsports from me

I went from CF1's to T1R's, didn't notice a decrease in grip at all.. If anything i'd say I have more grip now with 195's.

Probably not far off being the same rubber, just T1R is the 15in+ range.
