   You get the section cut out then plate welded,afterwards paint the new metal.

   a was thinking treating the area with rust killer then get sheet metal and cut the sheet metal out the same out the the exact same out lined in white and get it welded on top of this

   Can't see a problem with that just make sure you cut out as much rust as you can

   My old VTS had the same issue, check out my progress thread (if the pics sill work).
   
   I had two plates made up and welded over.
   
   Then a load of underseal on both sides
