Important! : Another stupid problem!

    Right,

    My car will drive fine with the battery light on, then just now when I was on the way to work I put the rear heated window on and the radio and battery light went of and the car started almost miss firing and the dial were going crazy!

    First things get a multimeter and see what charge its making. Try it when its running, and when its not running.
    When not running should read around 12v.
    When running should be around 14v.
    Should give you an indication as to whether the alternator/battery is knackered.

    If you're not sure how to do it, this guide is fairly good

    Quite likely, that or alt. Have you measured the voltage across the battery when running and when its not running? As i said this will tell you if the battery is knackered. If not you might have an earth problem...

    i put mates battery in last night and drove it around this morning it was dead.

    So surly this means its the alternator?

    Would seem that way mate!

    Are the 2 wires/contacts that go to the alternator clean + tight?

    What's the tension on the belt like? - would be abit of shit luck if the new alternator didn't work!

    both wires are sound and the belt has a little slack but not alot!

    And the alternator was not brand new jut got if of another car but i would of thought the chances of this one being fucked as well was unlucky
