bit camber in the rear wheel

  1. #1
just noticed today that the rear right wheel is bending in a bit, does this mean a new axle? what have others done when this has happened?
  2. #2
Stick your fingers in between the tyre and arch or look underneath to see what the gap is. Might just be how you're parked tbh.
  3. #3
should the Tyre be flush with the arch? is that what you mean

    No

Just measured mine and its near 2" from the arch to tyre (inner) both sides.

ill find a tape measure, took sum photos, ill show you
  6. #6

and this is the side that looks ok

  7. #7
    Oh i see :/
  8. #8
Driver's side deffo looks worse. Have you jacked it up both sides and checked for play?
  9. #9
not yet, i done it not so long ago and it was solid. ill try see if it has play. i had a vtr and the wheel wiggled like mad, just my luck, is it a new axle on the cards??
  10. #10
just had ago. it doesn't wiggle at all but moves up and down but that's just the suspension yeah?
  11. #11
Does it move up and down at the axle end of the arm or does it just rotate at the axle end? Looks like borked axle bearings or wheel bearings to me. If you replace the bearings immediately you may not have damaged the beam bearing surfaces if it hasn't been like that long.
  12. #12
the arm moves up and down mate when i try and wiggle the wheel in and out its solid??
  13. #13
crikey! looks rather donald ducked both sides.

Yes but at which end does it move up and down? easiest way to tell is to try and move the axle end of the arm up and down in the tube. If it moves more than about 1/2mm the bearing is f*cked.
  15. #15
I'd be surprised if theres no play at all with camber that bad. Must be/close to rubbing on the inner arch? Sadly i'd probably start preparing yourself for an axle in the near future though.
  16. #16
whats the best way of going about getting a new axle? best buying new in case a second hand one just goes the same way? its not rubbing (yet lol) its just recently happend to

mechsman i will try that out later, hard to explain but when i pushed the wheel up i had a look and the arm just moved with the wheel a little bit.
  17. #17
I would mate. You just cant trust a random axel of some saxo/106 (thats just me though).

When you do end up needing an axle and want to keep the car for a fair while, it makes sense to get one from IM axles. Come with a warranty iirc and all painted up etc, not cheap mind. Although they do give you a bit of money off if you give them your knackered one to refurb i think. If you're not intending to keep the car for a long time you could chance a second hand one, obviously that could fail 2 days/weeks/years after you fit it, who knows when.

+1 because down the line if you buy a scrapyard/ebay 1 you don`t know how much life its got, whereas IMaxles have a good rep mate.

If the arm moves at the axle end the axle bearings are defo borked. If the wheel can be wiggled relative to the arm it's the wheel bearings.

Given the camber and the fact it isn't rubbing yet I would say it's new axle or new axle bearings time. Then it simply comes down to how much you wanna vs how much risk you wanna take.

i think it was moving at the axle end mate, i'm in 2 minds at the minute get a good axle and keep the car or sell the few mods it has and sell it for cheap. get something else

jesus christ thats leaning in a fair bit!
my personal opinion... i wouldnt spend 350 on a brand new refurbed axle which is about half the value of the car itself lol

id just chance it with a 2nd hand one from here/scrap yard for £100 or less. even if you go through 3 2nd hand axles you'll still be better off financially lol
  26. #26
To the op how much MOT left on the car?
  27. #27

How handy are you with a set of spanners mate?Buy a recon beam & fit it yourself.Tbh if I added up how much i`ve spent on my saxo it`d come out more than the car is worth.
