Saxo wont rev over 3000

  1. #1
Evening, i own a 340 bhp megane r26 and have just brought a 2000 saxo vtr as a daily drive becuase the megane is so bad on fuel!! Anyway i brought it of a friend who had the issue. I have searched and tried a few things, tried a ecu reset ( batt off for a while ) i have checked the crank sensor and i dont belive this is the issue, iv checked the wiring from it to the ecu and all is ok. I read a thread on here about a broken wire behind engine but thats all that was said. Any idears would be good

    Thanks

Does it sound ok when on tickover? Sounds like it could be a map sensor problem

    bang on 3k?

just stops? or gets spluttery or???
  4. #4
Thanks for replys, engine sounds lovely on tickover i have unplugged the map sensor with the engine running and it makes it run rubbish. Its bang on 3000 rpm like you hit the limiter

Sounds like the coilpack to me.
  6. #6
No its not a missfire, its a limiter set by the ecu for what reason i dont know.

This might not work, but try unplugging the battery for about an hour or so, so the ecu can reset itself, and see if that helps

I have a 2000 vtr and a 2001 vtr and neither have a stationary limiter of 3k... Never heard of one at 3... Heard of it at 5k on a merc but the saxos arent that technologically advanced to set a stationary limiter... Will have safety perameters to stop the engine blowing up, maybe fuel pressure, spark tracking, crank position, or knock sensor...

It wont rev over 3000 when driving aswell. I have a engine light on but my obd 2 reader just brings up p1000.

normally if a MAF (Mass Airflow) sensor is unplugged this can cause the car to not rev fully. I've had this happen before on other cars.
  11. #11
Saxos dont run maf sensors they run map sensors.
  12. #12
Thats because the car dont have obd2... Petrol 2001 onwards and diesel 2005 onwards, you have to have a manufacturer specific one... And the only things that would knock it into safe mode are fuel pressure, knock sensor, manifold absolute pressure, oxygen sensor or crank sensor... If it see's any of these out of spec it logs it as a possible car danger to the engine and safe modes it... Have you googled the p1000/p100 code?

    where about you based?
i've got a proper diagnostics kit which worked on my saxo
  14. #14
i've got a bluetooth obd reader and the torque app on my phone which i used to use on my Leon Cupra. I've got an 02 reg VTR, will this work. I thought i saw an OBD port just near the bonnet pull.

im pretty sure its is obd2... thats the connector i used on mine. worked a treat.
  16. #16
Its a 16 pin plug but the software isnt obd2, its specific to the manufacturer before 2001 for petrols... After that the obd2 will read as it must be a common software to support obd2...

oh right, i dont really get these things but when i used it on the saxo i used the obd2 socket (i think) and used the chip it told me too and it came up with the errors i was expecting so i knew it worked. Snap-on though, so i would expect it too

Thats the solus aint it? Had one, loved it so upgraded and went verus... Get it spent 6,500quid later thanks i own a verus... :-) the solus can do manufacturer specific, its not the same as obd mate... Chip s44 iirc is for obd generic... Whereas the others are for manufacturer specific... Think 17 was volvo and 4 was audi... The verus is the dogs bollucks! Bluetooth conectivity 6 realtime graphs, autodata software on there as well... And because its xp based you can watch porn on it :-D

    Try another crankshaft sensor too.

Thanks for the replys, that makes sense why it no fault codes come up, i live in hemel hempstead hertfordshire, if anyone is local and want to earn some beer money for plugging it in then let me know, ill take into work today and oscilloscope as many sensors as i can and report what i find.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a single ecu, iv seen a few on here but you cant read them clearly

    Did you get my pm?

    sonds like limp mode

one word of advice..never unplug the map sensor on a running car
  25. #25
Sounds to me that the mani/cat is blocked, my dad had this on his octavia and his DPF (same as a manifold) that was blocked could be similar but it is 2 completely different cars
  26. #26
Dpf is for diesels and to be lame collects soot and gets clogged... Hence the power loss, with a cat they burn hotter than the engine and burn off more hydro carbons from what the engine produces... Its a catalist... Not a filter... Good thing to bring to the table tho, limp mode cus of the cat... You get my pm?
