Help! Manifold fitment = snapped bolt :@

  1. #1
    Hi
On my manifold one of the threads has snapped, undoing the nut caused it to snap
I only wanted to change them to Allen key heads
Any ideas of what I can do?

The manifold won't drop off but aesthetics are killing me!

Drill it it or take the mani off and you may be able to get a stud remover on it
  3. #3
Take the manifold off and mole grip whats left of the stud.

Kick in balls, but that's the only way

Id just leave it as it is lol.

remove mani, and unscrew snapped thread using molegrips

Drilling it might knacker the threads surely :/
I'd rather not have take the manifold off again
But seems like that's what everyone is saying!
I wouldn't mind leaving it, but I'll just know its there!
You sure mole grips will be able to take it out? Turning with a spanner snapped it, must be a tight 'un!

WD40, when they're tight to undo - turn it back, then go again, abit at a time Was a tip off a old farmer lol.

    Nice one
Shall give it a wiggle and twist and see how we get on!

if ya desperate not to take the manifold drop a touch of weld and a nut on whats left of the broken one and just unscrew her, then replace the bolt

Not sure if you've seen the picture, but I won't be able to put a nut on the thread, it's faced off!
Unless you mean weld the nut to the face, which probably won't hold
  10. #10
yeah i was thinking weld a small bolt or something onto the face, might just be worth it to save taking off the whole exhaust system just to swap one bolt!

    It's an idea I suppose
    If I had a welder :/

i did this mate, its the shock that snaps them, doesnt have to be that tight, them rusty old studs are pretty brittle.

i just took undid the other 7 nuts and dropped the mani forward off the stud and used some mole grips.

no need to undo the joint underneath to centre section.

i also did this method when i couldnt undo a bolt so i chiseled the head off, removed mani and used mole grips on the stud

works a treat, easyiest way tbh.

Sounds like I'm gonna be taking the front off then
Oh well it's only 8, well 7 bolts and you think mole grips will take it out?
  14. #14
Undo the rest of the bolts take the mani off & if mole grips don`t work, then cut a slot in the bolt. Then take a ratchet with a flat blade screwdriver bit & try & take it off that way.If your doing it the 1st way then run the engine up nice & hot then try(expansion)

    Nice one
Looks like mole grips are the first port of call!

let me know how you get on, this has kind of changed my mine, as i am wanting to remove my mani for heat-rapping and new gasket
  17. #17
    Will do!
Won't probably be until Sunday/Monday though!
  18. #18
mine did exactly the same and I used the mole grips, wiggling it about worked in the end but you need a bloody tight grip on it!
  19. #19
i banged a 6mm socket on the stud and then it will undo

    Any luck Dolby20?
