Oil filter change

Mk2 saxo I know where the oil filter is but can't work out how to open the black container to get to the paper filter. It's probably so simple. I searched all over but can't find pics or video on removing it anywhere. Can any one tell me ?

    24mm socket or man power

24mm socket and go for it, best to have some paper or rag around it as it does tend to lose a bit of oil at first

Be careful too... definitely use the right tools. I snapped a little bit of it without realising and it ended up messy to say the least.

And you just undo it from the top of the black thing? The hexagon thing is the screw?

Undo from the top, there are kits you can buy they are basically different size cups which fit over the oil filter housing.Make sure you don`t overtighten as well.

piece of piss, you can actually do it by hand. Wrap a bit of fabric at the bottom of it before opening so you won't send the few drops of oil left everywhere.

Haha forget it if it was a matter of taking the hole sump off kkk thanks 1 more thing when you put the new filter in do u have to oil it ? And where do u put the oil on it?

If there is a rubber seal then smear some oil around the seal with your finger(side going to the engine)

24mm? I thought it was 27mm... Could be wrong though! I'm not with a car, nor my tools.

Thanks for all the help. Time to service the car but it started raining -.-

Yeh kris is right 27mm socket. I use a long socket and an extension bar on the end of the ratchet. The whole black container will spin. Undo it. Pop filter out. Use a small flat head screwdriver it get the rubber seal off. Replace new seal. Put new filter in making sure it clicks screw housing back in tighten but only nip it up should be torque to 25 nm

if the socket just spins at 27mm get an oil filter ratchet (the ones where the more you twist the tighter they get) few of my mates have done it that way. if all else fails drill a hole through the housing so you can get a screwdriver in and twist it off, buy and fit a new housing < last resort....cave man style
